Dust Control Services

Clean Harbors Dust Control Services capture and contain airborne catalyst dust particles created during catalyst unloading and loading activities.  Catalyst dust can have high concentrations of noble metals such as nickel, cobalt, and molybdenum, or precious metals including silver, platinum and rhenium.  Most of these metals have considerable reclamation value to a refinery.

Our systems protect personnel from dust particles and metals that are potentially harmful if inhaled while working in and around an area where catalyst is being handled.  Clean Harbors dust control services safely and efficiently capture these materials for reclamation or disposal.

Dust Control Systems Employing HEPA Filtration

Clean Harbors dust control systems consist of a bag house filtration unit with HEPA (high efficiency particulate air) cartridge type filters.  This unit allows our system to filter the exhaust air down to <2 microns, capturing the most dust.  We employ dust collection equipment anywhere there is a potential for airborne dust contamination.

Compact and Mobile Systems

Our systems are compact and mobile, allowing easy deployment and operation.  The total unit footprint is ~16 sq. ft. and weighs ~1,200 lbs.  This versatile system requires minimal setup time and can be used inside of any refinery or petrochemical plant in a Class 1, Division 2 environment.

Inline De-dusting is Achieved During Catalyst Loading

Inline de-dusting improves the safety of the loading personnel by reducing harmful particulates present, which increases their visibility.  By attaching a specially developed apparatus to the loading hose designed by Clean Harbors Catalyst Technologies, additional dust removal can be achieved during catalyst loading to the feed stream of the loading system.  This process removes dust that can interfere with the performance of the catalyst.

Drum Packaging for Reclamation or Disposal of Materials

An inline drum loading device, designed into the dust collection system, provides uninterrupted drum loading of collected dust.  To collect the dust, most systems must have a secondary receiver, which must then be emptied into another container creating additional handling.  Our systems are engineered to allow the dust to go directly into 55-gallon drums, which eliminates a second handling and reduces attrition.
