About the Collection Depot
Clean Harbors has been managing the County's HHW collection depot since 1993. However, the site's efforts to encourage local residents to manage their household hazardous waste responsibly dates back to 1986. Working in cooperation with the Lambton Industrial Society (now called the Sarnia-Lambton Environmental Association) and Lambton College, the site helped introduce the concept of household hazardous waste management to local residents by sponsoring an annual collection day. The event became so popular that it was taken over by Lambton County and transformed into a seasonal service.
Materials collected are sorted for recycling, proper treatment and disposal. Each year, the facility invites local service organizations to help at the depot, in return for company donations towards community betterment projects.
Most waste household chemicals that are labelled corrosive, toxic, reactive or flammable will be accepted. Household waste products brought to the HHW depot include: paints, batteries, cleaners, pesticides, herbicides, sharps, solvents, pool chemicals and oils. Waste generated from commercial operations cannot be accepted at the depot.
